Leaf Spring Kits
Leaf spring suspension is old technology, and leafs have been supplanted by modern multi-link systems with coil springs on most late-model cars. But they were original equipment on many performance cars in the past, and some fine handling sports cars still use transverse leaf springs made of advanced composite material. And of course, with their excellent load carrying capabilities they remain the springs of choice for truck rear suspension. Whether you want to lift or lower your ride, or improve its performance or load capacity, we have the performance leaf springs and related components for the job.
Many of the most popular muscle cars of the 60s and 70s had leaf springs out back, including the Chevy Camaro and Nova, Ford Mustang, and all of the Mopar muscle cars of that era. Although some like to restore these cars and choose to stay with original components, a large number of owners want to drive and enjoy them as the performance machines they were meant to be and upgrade the suspension to improve launching and handling capabilities. You could go with cost and complexity of a 4-link conversion, or save time and money and get much improved performance with our leaf springs and components.
You'll find many aids to help get the tires planted on a leaf spring car on our digital shelves, including traction bars and pinion snubbers, but optimal traction starts with better leaf springs. We have springs that will reduce body roll and improve handling, and decrease axle wrap for better launch from a dead stop with less wheel hop - all without harsh ride quality. And many of these springs are offered in a range of lowered ride heights, so you can get the stance you want at the same time. To further improve performance, upgrade your spring shackles and bushings when you install your springs. We have heavy-duty shackles and stronger polyurethane bushings that won't deflect like rubber for greater stability, as well as low-friction Delrin bushings for improved suspension compliance.
While truck owners certainly want their vehicles to handle, pickups were primarily designed for carrying cargo in the bed. Many cars, which don't carry heavy loads, use single leafs. To increase spring rate, to carry more weight, trucks have springs composed of several leaves, stacked up. If the back of your pickup is sagging, we can supply you with new springs to restore ride height, ride quality and original weight carrying capacity, but if you want to further increase load capacity you have several options. Add-a-leaf kits are the economical way to increase ride height and spring rate without replacing the entire spring. But while this choice will enable your truck to carry more weight, it will also result in a stiffer ride. An add-a-leaf kit is a good choice if you regularly haul heavy loads.
If you only occasionally carry heavy loads, helper springs are the answer. They work with your existing leaf springs, to level the vehicle and provide a smooth ride and optimal handling when hauling cargo. We offer both air springs and secondary leaf springs as helper springs. Secondary leaf springs are available in a wide range of load support ratings, from 500 to 3500 lbs. These progressive rate springs are manufactured from heat treated spring steel for maximum strength, and can be adjusted independently to accommodate uneven side-to-side loads. When weight at the rear of the vehicle increases, load assistance takes place gradually as the main springs compress. During normal unloaded driving, they have no effect on the main springs, and don't cause any ride harshness.
Our helper air springs supplement your factory springs and install on top of the leaf springs or axle. They come in vehicle specific kits in a range of capacities. Air springs can be adjusted to the load, so you can level your vehicle for optimal handling, braking and control, and get a comfortable ride. The air springs are inflated via air lines, and can be set up to fill in pairs or individually. However, to get the most benefit from your air springs, install an on-board air compressor system. We have complete systems that include the compressor, air springs, and everything needed for installation. Instead of having to find a source of air when you want to pump up your air springs, with an on-board compressor system you can adjust air pressure with the touch of a button.
Lifting a truck is an art. We offer thoroughly engineered, complete lift kits that will give you everything you need to lift your truck, including the springs. Our performance suspension manufacturers know what is needed for every application. But if you have your own ideas about raising your rig we can offer you several ways to do it. We have lifting springs in a wide range of lift heights, as well as lifting block and U-Bolt kits, and lifting shackles. Many of our lifting blocks are tapered to help maintain the proper driveshaft angle and avoid vibration. Complete the installation with new spring pads, shackles and bushings. Whether you go with standard height or lifting shackles we have the heavy-duty units that can withstand off-road abuse, some with greasable polyurethane bushings.
But not everyone wants to lift a vehicle; some want the ""slammed"" look and if that's you we've got you covered. There are many ways to lower a leaf-spring vehicle and we offer several choices including flat and tapered lowering block kits that include new U-bolts, as well as lowering shackles. The best way to lower your leaf spring suspended car or truck is with our lowering springs. They have less arch than OE springs to provide the lowered ride height you want, but with a higher spring rate to improve handling and prevent bottoming out. They're available for late model cars and trucks as well as many classic muscle cars, in a range of drops. These springs will not only give your ride the stance you want, but they'll also make it handle better and minimize axle wrap and wheel hop.
