If you're hot-rodding your engine to make more horsepower, upgrading the oiling system should be part of the plan. Components like a deep sump, baffled oil pan should be at the top of the list, to increase oil capacity and prevent oil starvation, along with a high volume, high pressure oil pump to ensure your engine gets an ample supply of oil at all RPMs. But if you don't include a performance oil filter in your build, you could be headed for problems.
Standard oil filters don't have the strength, flow rate, and filtration ability to meet the needs of performance engines. A high volume pump and a pan full of 20W-50 can create enough oil pressure to rupture a standard spin-on filter, and a standard filter can restrict flow, allowing oil pressure to drop with subsequent metal-to-metal contact and engine damage. And some co-called performance oil filters sacrifice filtration to achieve high flow rates.
Our performance spin-on oil filters have thick canister walls and heavy-duty base plates to prevent distortion even at extreme oil pressures, and these rugged housings also have the strength to resist punctures from rocks and debris, so you don't end up stranded. While the specific media construction is proprietary to the manufacturer, in general most performance filters have specially designed synthetic media that allow high oil flow rates while trapping as much as 99% of harmful contaminants. Some of our performance filters have hex nuts for easy wrench-off removal, and they're pre-drilled for safety wire attachment.
In addition to our performance filters, we also offer a large selection of related oil filter accessories including adapters and remote filter kits. Many older vehicles were originally equipped with cartridge oil filters, which can be time consuming and messy to change. We offer adapters to allow the substitution of easy-off, easy-on, spin-on oil filters. Convenient oil filter access makes regular maintenance fast and easy, and we have the filter relocation kits that will allow you to mount the filter in an easily accessible spot.
The exact contents will vary according to manufacturer, however most relocation kits include the remote filter mount, engine mounted adapter, hoses, clamps, fittings, and hardware. Relocation kits not only make filter changes easy, in some cases one can be a necessity, such as with an engine swap: the engine oil filter may be in the way of, or inaccessible with, a different chassis. Oil capacity can also be increased with a relocation kit since most kits use a large capacity filter, and dual filter kits are also available. A relocation kit can also facilitate the addition of an engine oil cooler. |
